In this video we look at the result of the September Raw Room Photo Challenge. This month was a joy and there’s lots to learn from looking at these excellent photographs.
The subject of this months challenge is the creative use of shutter speed. Taking inspiration from the Creative Control chapter of the landscape masterclass, we can use our shutter speed to affect the look of our image or to freeze fast action. It is a broad topic and could include long exposure photography of a favourite landscape, a giant wave crashing over a lighthouse, a beautiful bird in flight or a water balloon bursting above a persons head. The only limit is our creativity.

In this video we look at the result of the August Raw Room Photo Challenge. There are some fantastic images that also create some really interesting talking and learning points for us all.
The subject of the August challenge was Depth. Where photography takes the 3D world down into a 2D world, it is often important to use compositional elements to create a sense of depth in our images. Landscapes with leading lines, use of contrast in street photography, misty woodland photography or a creative portrait can all do the trick.

The subject of the first challenge is ‘Bokeh’. That beautiful, creamy, delicious background blur that removes distractions and put the subject centre stage. All the challenges are completely open to all genres of photography and the technical use of bokeh can be used creatively in a variety of situations.
